چکیده
Panax ginseng is becoming a promising antidiabetic herbal medication. As the main active constituents of Panax ginseng, ginsenosides are well known, poorly absorbed chemicals. However, the pharmacokinetic behavior of ginsenosides under diabetic conditions is not fully understood. This study aimed to explore the alterations and potential mechanisms of pharmacokinetic behavior of ginsenoside Rb1 in diabetic rats compared with normal rats and rats fed a high-fat diet. Systemic exposure (area under the concentration-time curve extrapolated from zero to infinity) was significantly increased in diabetic rats after oral administration of Rb1. Oral bioavailability of Rb1 was significantly higher in diabetic rats (2.25%) comparedwith normal rats (0.90%) and rats fed a highfat diet (0.78%). Further studies revealed that increased Rb1 exposure in diabetic rats may be mainly attributed to increased Rb1 absorption via the intestine and inhibited Rb1 deglycosylation by the intestinal microflora. Neither metabolic enzymes nor drug transporters displayed appreciable effects on Rb1 disposition. The transport of paracellular markers (fluorescein sodium and fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran of 4 kDa) as well as Rb1 itself across the Caco-2 monolayer cultured with diabetic serum was promoted, demonstrating that increased paracellular permeability of the Caco-2 monolayer may benefit intestinal Rb1 absorption. In addition, Rb1 exposure was decreased in diabetic rats after Rb1 intravenous administration, which may result from increased Rb1 urinary excretion. In conclusion, Rb1 oral exposure was significantly increased under diabetic conditions, which is of positive significance to clinical treatment. The potential mechanism may be associated with the combined contribution of increased gut permeability and inhibited deglycosylation of ginsenoside Rb1 by intestinal

Subjective health complaints of teachers from primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.
This study aimed to investigate the subjective health complaints (SHC) in the teaching profession of Hong Kong. On the basis of the SHC inventory, a questionnaire was prepared for data collection through a mail survey. A total of 1710 usable questionnaires were returned by the primary or secondary school teachers. The results showed that 99.5% (n = 1702) of respondents suffered at least one typ...

متن کاملScalar Glueball, Scalar Quarkonia, and their Mixing
The isosinglet scalar mesons f0(1710), f0(1500), f0(1370) and their mixing are studied. We employ two recent lattice results as the starting point; one is the isovector scalar meson a0(1450) which displays an unusual property of being nearly independent of quark mass for quark masses smaller than that of the strange, and the other is the scalar glueball mass at 1710 MeV in the quenched approxim...
متن کاملMixing of Scalar Glueball and Scalar Quarkonia
The isosinglet scalar mesons f0(1710), f0(1500), f0(1370) and their mixing are studied. Two recent lattice results are employed as the starting point; one is the approximate SU(3) symmetry in the scalar sector above 1 GeV for the connected insertion part without qq̄ annihilation, and the other is the scalar glueball mass at 1710 MeV in the quenched approximation. In the SU(3) symmetry limit, f0(...
متن کاملStudy of tribological behavior of Cu–MoS2 and Ag–MoS2 nanocomposite lubricants
Tribological behavior of Cu-MoS2 and Ag-MoS2 nanocomposite lubricant was studied. Cu nanoparticles produced by electrical explosion of copper wires and Ag nanoparticles prepared by electrospark erosion were employed as metal cladding modifiers of MoS2 nanolamellar particles. The tribological tests showed Cu-MoS2 and Ag-MoS2 nanocomposite lubricants changed the friction coefficient of the initia...
